Lets start with the basics, what is astrology?

Astrology is the study of the planets and other extra-terrestrial bodies, such as asteroids, the moon, dwarf planets and the meaning they have for us.

An astrological chart can be for a person or an event. The moment you take your first breath you cast a chart of where the positions of the planets are in relationship to your location on earth and you have your astrology chart.

The astrology chart is full of symbols, archetypes that represent various personality characteristics. Each planetary body has an archetype, or symbolic meaning for our human existence. The art of interpretation is to combine all the various characteristics of the different planets in the different signs in the various connections to each of the other planets together.

Your Sun sign may be in Taurus, steady, slow to change, and perhaps that is not like you at all. Perhaps you have even gotten into trouble by jumping into a situation too quickly, or the Taurus interpretation of being careful around money is not you at all! Venus is known as the goddess of love and desire. Your Sun might be in Taurus but if your Venus is in Aries she can be quick to make a decision when she sees something that she wants.  You need to interpret both where the Sun in Taurus is operating in your chart and where Venus is in charge.

That is why sun sign astrology is so incredibly limited. It gives only a fraction of what the whole of the chart can.

Why astrology works is a mystery for sure, but anyone who has sincerely studied astrology will tell you that when you know how to interpret a chart and how to interpret the astrological influences astrology does ‘work’.

Astrology brings insight into the psychology of an individual and therefore is a good predictor of how a person will react to events, what type of relationship a person will be with, and what type of a career an individual will be drawn towards.

There are times when a transiting planet will make an aspect to the chart and situations that are latent as possibilities will happen.

For example, when there is a major transit to your Venus you could meet someone knew and become involved in a relationship or the relationship you are in becomes unstable in some way.

When there is a major influence to your Sun that is when you can consider changing job, career or even pick up and move across the country to start a new life and new beginnings.

Saturn returns, around age 28 are a time to reassess what you have, what you want and if you are happy doing what you are doing.

The second Saturn return kicks it up a notch and asks those internal questions once more.

Astrology is an incredibly helpful tool for you to understand yourself and why things happen in your life. It gives you reasons and understanding for you to develop to your highest potential. You will even know where you can hold yourself back and why you do.

Many times we live our life trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, and understanding yourself through your astrology chart will help you find what is best for you. Why work so hard at something that ultimately will not bring you happiness or success? Your astrology chart can give you insight and what parts of you to develop so you can reach your goals and highest potential.

Spiritual awareness comes from inner knowing and personal awareness. Know why you react the way you do, know why you are the way you are and you can transcend your limitations and move towards ascension.

There are many ways and many paths to enlightenment, all require deep understanding of self and awareness. Astrology is an essential short cut that you can utilize on the road to compassion and ascension.

In case you are curious about the person behind this blog I thought I would share a few things with you. I know it is easy to be invisible in the blog world and I hope to meet other astrologers, professional and novice along the way. Who knows, perhaps we have met at an astrology conference or that you saw me at a lecture or maybe we will meet in the future. These days my 12th house is activated (astro lingo for being behind the scenes, not out in the public eye).

Why astrology?I have been interested in all the metaphysical disciplines since I was young. I came across astrology at 24, when I had my first astrology reading. It was fascinating, as a shy young woman sitting across from a distinguished astrologer I looked at the hand drawn chart with all its symbols on it and wondered how can you know these things about me just by looking at those symbols?

I have to say that anyone who has had a professional astrology reading by someone who knows what they are doing most likely has had the same experience. It was then that I incorporated astrological principles into my spiritual path. Knowing who you are on a core level is a foundation needed in order to move beyond towards a holistic sense of awareness and personal transformation. I first began my astrology practice after passing an 8 hour  qualifying exam for certified astrologers.

I opened an office and also did mini readings by the thousands, (yes! thousands) that gave me incredible experience and exposure to just about any profession, educational status, financial status, and ethnic background. I still suggest to my students not to think of mini readings as beneath them, being able to get good enough to give a person valuable information in a few short minutes will hone the astrologer skills.  Since those days I have developed a clientele from across the globe, thanks to the internet phone service and skype it is affordable to reach out to all corners of the globe. Much of my work is also recorded sessions where someone sends me in what is on their mind and I prepare, record and send the MP3 astrology reading for them to listen to at their leisure. I served on the AFAN steering committee and now am on the Astrology New Service board.
