We have a major shift happening this week in astrology, Neptune, the planet that symbolizes the artist, dreamer and shape shifter is leaving the land of Aquarius and moving back home to Pisces on Friday the 3rd. Neptune will be in Pisces for 14 years so we will have plenty of time to get familiar with the gifts of Neptune.

As Neptune slips through your chart you will have a vague notion, (Neptune only whispers) of something different to bring into your life that is creative, spiritual, or dream like.

Neptune is not of this world, it is of the world that is of spirit, not matter.

Part of what will become more important will be the areas of life that have to do with creativity, music, spiritual growth and a deeper more meaningful purpose to life. Listen to your inner spirit and what your soul is asking for to be fulfilled.

The everyday world of “making it” can appear less attractive and not have as much hold on you as before. That is not to say that your career and goals will disappear, however it does indicate that you may question if your goals and what you do has a spiritual meaning beneath the surface.

There are several ways to incorporate Neptune in Pisces into your life in a healthy way (the unhealthy side of Neptune is escaping at all cost, many times through drugs or alcohol, or leaving what you have for an illusion that turns out to be worse than what you left).

* Bring music into your life that helps you feel centered and at peace.
* Keep a journal by your bedside and record your inner most thoughts and feelings.
* Plan a vacation near water or high in the mountains covered with clouds.
* Wear your art – add a few pieces of clothing to your ward robe that reflect the artist in you.
* Meditate; find a spiritual practice that feels right for you.
* Practice compassion and share unconditional love.
* Practice random acts of kindness.
* Do something for another who does not have the capacity to do anything for you in exchange.
* Open your heart to those who suffer and send loving kindness and acts of charity to alleviate suffering.

Taurus: (April 20- May 20) Enjoy the blessings around you and vow to your higher self to value and remember what is most important to your life. You may be tempted this month and be pulled off track, whether it is procrastinating, or being seduced by something (or someone) that you know once you taste the goodies you will soon regret the action. Be willing to challenge the beliefs that are common and agreed upon, just because the majority believes in something does not make it true or right for you.
Gemini: (May 21-June 21) Conquer your inner realms and you will no longer be conflicted when faced with a multitude of paths and be able to act on instinct. The intuitive force is strong this month. You will see through agendas that create undercurrents of power struggle. Stay true to what you know you can do. Any setbacks are only temporary. Cancer: (June 22- July 22) It is time to face any of the monsters hiding in the closet, in facing fears the beautiful butterfly emerges from its cocoon. Have you ever felt as if you were trapped in the belly of a whale and waiting until you are spit out and freed again only to be tossed around in the ocean? Leo: (July 23- August 22) Getting back on track with a routine you can live with is essential now. With Venus traveling through your house of partnerships in the first part of January having a friend help you stay focused can be fun. Your life is evoking your character, is it what you want? Virgo: (August 23-September 22) Mars moving retrograde in your sign can set you on fire to work and study hard and get moving in life. Your destiny is to work hard so make sure that it is a work that you know you want and can be good at. Your creativity is strong and romance is in the air. Fire was kept within the realm of the gods. They were the keepers of a knowledge or science not understood my mankind. Think of the wizard of Oz and the curtain being pulled away to reveal the mechanics that appeared from the outside incomprehensible and awe invoking fear and reference. One point in the consciousness was fire, it appeared on earth from lightning if the circumstances were exact, and would burn out and not return until another mysterious event.

The shift of Uranus direct is the day that the planet has the strongest ability to awaken the aha moment within. The curtain of ignorance is pulled back and the ability to comprehend and utilize the science behind the mystery is revealed.

Since early times, famous astrologers of the kings would give advice on what the different eclipse charts, (as well as the ingress charts) indicated for the kingdom.

Many of today’s astrologers interpret the charts in less predictive vain, and more with a psychological aspect. What do the planets suggest we need to pay attention to? The curiosity of astrology is even though astrologers suggest how best to use the influence of the times to be happier and a better person, many times the chart of the eclipse will reflect what actually happens in individuals lives.

This is especially true when a position of the sun or moon in the eclipse chart is the same position as one of your personal planets. If you are experiencing difficult transits in your chart and the eclipse is also aspecting your chart then you might have a surprise with this eclipse that you do not anticipate or want.

Yet every moment in time has a precious gift to offer when you look back upon the experience. Sometimes the gifts are ones we wonder why we got them, (and want to know where the return department is). Yet a difficult experience can be seen with hindsight as something we needed to learn. Other times our experiences are gifts we want, an unexpected pleasure or opportunity to do or have something important to us.

The gift in this lunar eclipse is to enhance relationships and communications.

• What would shift in your relationships if you communicated from your heart?

• Where (or to whom) have you not told someone something in order to protect your own self-interest or because you feel that you can’t be your whole self around them? And how does that make the relationship between the two of you stifled?

The Sun is connected to a point in the sky called Cupido (a transneptunian planet) on the day of the eclipse. Cupido has to do with loving and harmonious relationships in your personal life and societal relationships as well. If you are interested in creating better relationships with those you love meditate on what needs to happen to have deeper insight into each other. If you want to create a romantic relationship this is a good time to put yourself in a position where you can meet someone.

The north node of the moon (the place to explore for the most growth) suggests giving relationships space for each person to pursue what they believe is right for them, without judgment or condemnation. If your differences and needs are too polarized you may realize the need to go in different directions.

Sagittarius and Gemini (the sun and moon) also have to do with traveling. Mercury is always busy getting someplace and is connected with Mars and Neptune in the eclipse energy. What does this mean? Watch out for the other guy, Neptune represents not paying attention, (and drinking) so having Mercury connected together with Neptune and Mars there can be people driving responding to their communication devices, and not watching the road. Stay safe and aware. When you study astrology you will begin to understand and see the reflection of the symbols in the eclipse throughout the global news and your personal environment.

Lunar Eclipse

Aries: (March 21- April 19) The need to break free from old restrictive patterns or beliefs can lead to taking impulsive risks. Look before you leap unless you really feel that no matter what happens you have to do it and promise yourself that you will have no regrets. Find or rediscover your faith, especially your belief in your dreams. Pay attention to your spending, money can flow yet keep your eye on the bigger picture and not short term desires. Mercury spends time in your house of learning, what do you want to learn that can help your career or standing in the community.

Taurus: (April 20- May 20) This can be a very passionate month for you. Ideas of how to manifest your dreams filter in from several sources. Pay attention and expand the concept of what you have. It is much deeper than your paycheck, known talents, or things you own. The world is full of resources, yet they remain hidden until you seek ideas outside of what is comfortable to you. Thoughts of how quickly life can be changed float across your consciousness. Jupiter is stationed and shining is good will December 25th in your sign, feeling optimistic is easy now.

Gemini: (May 21-June 21) Your month is filled with a plethora of people, many with very different viewpoints on all topics. In fact you can be quite happily engaged in lively discussions on everything from politics to religion. For you it can be all in good fun but others may take their opinions as facts written in stone. Time and effort spent in fixing your home takes the edge off of cramped quarters. Your creativity and fun has been challenged the last year, find the time and money to spend on activities that bring you joy.

Cancer: (June 22- July 22) Changes in your partners life or job could create stress for you. If you are single then the person you are closest to can be having some challenges that can bring a choice for you as to how much effort you can extend to help them out. It is important to consider your own health and well-being as you are requested to take on more responsibility in work or other projects. Managing your day to day routines with determination and efficiency will alleviate pressure. New friends can enter your life or being proactive in a group or organization will connect you with like-minded souls.

Leo: (July 23- August 22) Your naturally generous heart and desire to have the best holidays yet can lead to arguments around money, even if the argument is with yourself!
You may want to do something different for the holidays this year; where you can kick back and not work so hard and have more freedom and fun to enjoy. Friends and family you haven’t seen for a while can pop back into your life. In spite of the busy social holiday keep your eye on opportunities around your career, they are there you only need to step forward risk being rejected to find out what you need to get that next job.

Virgo: (August 23-September 22) Do you want to spend your holidays at home or away from the routine? With Mars, the warrior planet in your sign it is best to be around people that love you and accept you as you are. The need to stand up for your right to be who you are can be powerful, be conscious that the aggressive energy does not slip into a negative pattern of finding fault with everything. See the world as a reflection back to self and use this information to grow and develop. Spending time in self-discovery yields great rewards.

Libra: (September 23 – October 23). Learning to communicate and express your truth is your lesson this month. How do you answer your best friend when they ask you a question they only want one answer to and it isn’t the truth? (Do I look fat in this dress?) Diplomacy and kindness and authenticity will stand you apart from others. Be willing to let others change and move on, spirit is getting ready to move you to new places, in work, location or relationships;

Scorpio: (October 24-November 21) Negotiations are on the table for you. You may have an innate sense of you true worth and value, yet others may not see it so clearly. Communicate what you know is true around your value, to your employer, your lover, and others where you can feel you are not seen or understood. Listen for feedback and you may understand best what adjustments you can make that will make you happier. This isn’t about acquiescing, it is a spiritual understanding how ones persons view of the world can be much different that your own.

Sagittarius: (November 22- December 21) What a remarkable year ahead for you; the eclipses, solar and lunar highlighting your life reminding you to return to source. Get in touch with the part of you that knows, deep in your heart of hearts, what you are meant to do this life. Time is moving forward and the challenge is for you to step onto the path that will take you there. Don’t forget to get the details, as Mars in Virgo is impacting your energy and wants to know how you plan to make your dreams reality.

Capricorn: (December 22- January 19) Much pre-holiday hustle and bustle can push you to the extreme- shutting the doors on over extended glee or retreating to a place deep in your spiritual beliefs and reconnect with what is most important for you. By the time that the winter solstice arrives, (your official time to begin your birthday celebrations) your spirits are lifted and hope for a brighter year lifts your heart. You can feel deep within that change is coming, listen to your dreams and intuition for more guidance. Concern for you reputation is secondary to honor and character.

Aquarius: (January 20 – February 18) Friends and acquaintances surround you this month. Lovers from the past can cross your path and an apparent casual conversation can reveal insights that shift perspectives on your world view. Strong opinions from others can ruffle your emotional composure. Usually the motto live and let live allows for diversity, yet you will be challenged to take a stand on issues that you feel cross a line.
You see clearly now, the power struggles that you felt in the past are now realized as struggles of different aspects of you.

Pisces: (February 19 – March 20). A life decision can be made this month concerning the direction of your career or what you want to accomplish this life. Remember career is more than your job; you may have a day job but your real career or work could be something completely different. Find your path, have faith in your choices, believe that no matter what happens you know it is meant to be and will eventually lead to good. Say what’s on your mind; it is easy to speak the truth this month without needing to explain why or seek approval.

Put on your happy face and see the good in any circumstance. Sure there are major problems in the world, but when something knocks you off your center, and it certainly can now- as the moon is wobbling and we are looking ahead to 2 eclipses, the solar and lunar, take a deep breath and find your center. After the initial anger or wobble, see it from another perspective, what could possibly be good about this? Keep digging deep and you will be able to find something. Remember the old story about 2 kids being told that their Christmas gift was outside in a shed? When one child opened up the door and saw a pile of manure she cried and knew the world was cruel and playing a horrible trick on her, the other child opened the door and saw the pile of manure and gleefully grabbed the nearest shovel and started digging around. When the child was asked what she was doing, she enthusiastically replied, “where there is manure there’s a pony- I’m looking for my pony”.

Find the diamond in the chunk of coal, the pony in the pile of crap!

Heads up for Mercury retrograde on Nov 24th, Thanksgiving day for those of us in the USA, remember when Mercury is retrograde it is time to catch up- not always the best time to start new projects. Find what you would like to catch up on and carve time out of the next 3 weeks to be able to whisk through old projects and complete them.

The node of the moon, the sensitive point in the chart which points to where we can develop ourselves the most, is at the same position as the node of the planet Uranus, the planet of sudden changes and wanting to make huge shifts. Therefore this week can be a time that huge shifts can happen. What huge shifts would be important to you? Since it is with the node of the moon, it can occur around family, or a shift in family dynamics. It can also be a sudden realization of home, perhaps you find info on a place that you want to move to someday. Or a sudden shift or insight around the home your spirit live in, your body. Pay attention to how your body feels and what it needs. There is more nervous energy happening- if you find that by nature you consider yourself of a nervous disposition anchor your being with the tools and tricks you know that settle your nerves.

More than anything this energy is bringing us the ability to be true to ourselves and live an authentic life. It is more than speaking your truth; BE your truth, let your life reflect the truth of who you are.

When you learn astrology you will be able to understand yourself and the people around you better. Your astrology chart does not make you do things, or be the way you are: it reflects the lens that you have in your view and interpretation of events that happen. The purpose of astrology is to help you be a better person by understanding your weak points and developing the weaker areas into stronger characteristics and to also expand and use what your natural talents and gifts are.

There are many different approaches towards astrology, different astrology schools and systems. I am an astrology teacher who has a psychological approach to teaching astrology, which is using astrology as a tool for self-growth and awareness. Jungian archetypal symbols are so obvious in the interpretation of the meanings of the planets it is impossible to dismiss the basic human characteristics described in the myths of the ancients Greeks and Romans from whence the Planets were names after to not see the correlation between human characteristics and fallibility and understand it as a reflection of innate psychological makeup. Indeed as the astronomers are discovering more and more dwarf planets and other objects in our solar system the complexity of the chart expands.
This is a reflection of the complexity in our daily life expanding and the constant news and interconnectedness we have with what is happening in the world.

There are many astrology books on the market that will help you learn astrology. The best way to learn astrology, and the best astrology teacher I ever had, recommended that you learn the basics of astrology and then follow the transits in your chart along with the astrological movements of the planets, current transits, to have an experience of exactly how astrology works. While studying astrology this way you will inevitably be able to predict events or the general influence of what might happen, not only in your chart but in world events. The astrology course that I offer follows this path. Every month you learn what is happening in the sky, the astrology transits, how it is related to world events and how to be able to predict upcoming changes by understanding the astrological influence. You learn month by month what the signs mean, what the planets mean, what planets rule what signs, and how to incorporate this knowledge into your daily life to improve your life.

The planets have influence, years ago I wrote about the upcoming world financial crises and government crises by knowing that Pluto was going to enter Capricorn and that there would be a Uranus Pluto square that reflected back to the Uranus Pluto conjunction in the mid 1960’s. You too can understand the upcoming world changes and the changes in your life by knowing what is happening in the astrology sky. Once you have the basics down it is fairly easy to learn how to interpret these astrological influences.

I believe that astrology is a gift from the universe that all beings walking the spiritual path need to know. It is not a magic bullet that will instantly make any problems go away, but it will help you know what to do and you can get in the flow of the planetary energy field and use the help of the planets when you know how to. I would be happy if you studied with me, but the important thing is to find an astrology teacher that you can connect with to study from. It is more important to me that you understand the beauty and mystery of astrology and that you let the power of astrology help you than whether or not you choose to learn from my astrology courses.

As the astronomers aptly name these newly discovered bodies after ancient myths the archetypal patterns and problems of the mythological deity is woven into our world.

Of course you need to know the basics of astrology to understand and to be able to read an astrology chart.

Once you get past memorizing the symbols for the signs and planets, and know the basic meanings you can begin to put the pieces in place.

The basics of astrology are:

1.) Planets
2.) Signs
3.) Houses (not all schools of astrology use houses, and different systems of astrology use different house systems- don’t stress too much about that at first, pick one then continue to learn about the other astrology house systems)
4.) Aspects which are how the planets are in mathematical angles to each other

There are astrology classes and astrology courses you can find that will give you the basic fundamentals symbols but leave you with a what next feeling. The easiest way is to bite the bullet, learn the planetary glyphs and symbols for the signs and move on to incorporate the deeper meanings and archetypal patterns found in astrology.

Once you learn the fundamentals of astrology then you will want to further your knowledge with:

1.) Asteroids- there are thousands of asteroids, start with Juno, Ceres, Vesta, and Pallas Athene.
2.) Centaurs and the dwarf planets Chiron especially- Chiron in the chart is very important and you will want to begin using Chiron as soon as you have learned the astrology basics.
3.) Fixed stars- again there are many stars but little by little you can incorporate the fixed stars in your chart interpretation.
4.) Midpoints- especially the midpoint between the sun and moon, ascendant and mid heaven.
5.) Heliocentric planetary nodes.
6.) Symmetrical astrology, Cosmobiology, and the Transneptunian planets
6.) Sabian Symbols.

Whatever system you use to learn astrology the important point is to get started. Do not be discouraged if you find it complicated, as in all disciplines the deeper you study the more you discover there is to learn. I have been exploring and learning astrology for decades. It is a good idea to back up your computer, double check your cell phone service and message delivery systems and think twice before you hit send on emails.

On a deeper level when Mercury moves retrograde it is the symbolic time to retreat, go back to your source, retrieve divine messages from within and when Mercury moves direct you can implement fresh ideas and thoughts into your life.

Mercury on average moves retrograde 3 times a year for 3 weeks at a time. Therefore 9 weeks out of the yearly 52 is a time to pause for a few weeks to rethink and catch up on what you have been doing in the previous 3 months. Unfortunately in our modern day busy world most schedules are so packed with obligations, whether social or work, that we are constantly adding on more to the pile with the inevitable I will get to that later attitude. This leads to a mental and emotional overload on the to-do list without ever enjoying the feeling that we have finally caught up with everything. For the sake of our sanity we ignore or conveniently forget all of the little things that have been left unfinished.

When noticing the next Mercury retrograde, listen to your inner voice, what is your inner heart prompting you to do? What would you most like to take care of that you have been putting aside? What books or magazines are calling you to read? Who do you want to get back in touch with? What have you left undone?

When you first think and account for all the areas of your life that are left undone it may be overwhelming. Honor your inner guidance of how best to accomplish what weighs you down the most or what your spirit needs. It could be that you take a break from saying yes to most of the social activities that come your way to have extra time to yourself to rethink and regroup. It could be you take a vacation day or two and tack it onto your weekend and give yourself a long weekend to zip through everything that has piled up. Perhaps you find it in your best interest to get some help to thoroughly clean your home or to organize and recycle the unused stuff in your closets and basement.

Taking time to retreat to the “gods” to receive the messages would be the greatest gift to you during Mercury retrograde. If your chosen spiritual discipline has a program for a weekend or yearly program this is a good time to research the details of future programs and think about what it will take for you to attend during this time. If spirit has blessed you with a program of interest during the retrograde cycle why not honor this time and enjoy it? However just because your spiritual family may or may not have a structured program of meditation or retreat during these times does not mean you cannot create one for yourself.

Becoming in tune with the energy of the planets will allow your life to become on time and in sync with the best possible unfolding of your life path. Using the Mercury retrograde time to embrace the essence of retrieving the messages from the “Gods” will support your mental harmony (Mercury as ruler of Gemini, thought) and your physical well-being and harmony (Mercury ruler of Virgo, our health and daily work habits).
